The Witch Party
November 12, 1892
A Novel Entertainment Highly Appreciated by a Large Audience
The Witch Party given by St. Luke's Guild in Armory Hall, Friday evening,
was a novelty in the way of entertainments. The attendance was unusually large. The hall was appropriately decorated for the occasion with palm
leaves, evergreens and ivy arranged with exquisite taste. In the center of the room Was the witches' cauldron, and half way between the earth and sky the old woman in the clothes basket was suspended.
The opening number was a march by the wizards and witches. This was followed by a piano solo " The Witches Dance," which wan excellently rendered by Miss Ella Goeliner. During this number five witches danced around the cauldron.
"The Ghost Song" by Misses Minnie and Della Prior, accompanied by the
rolling of thunder and flashing of lightning produced a decided impression on the audience. This number was received with applause.
The mandolin, guitar and piano trio by Misses Mossmayer, Prior and Ellis
was a pleasing feature of the entertainment.
The shadow dunce by Mrs. H. Laugenour was gracefully given.
Miss Carrie Cornes, of Sacramento, rendered a beautiful vocal solo which
was warmly applauded.
The Orpheus Quartette dosed the program with several vocal selections.
Dancing, games, astrology and other amusements then engaged the attention
of the guests, Refreshments were served during the evening.
